Review: Essence - Wake up, Spring! LE - Eyeliner pens

Hello spring! I know each year you can read trends for spring in the magazines and commericals, but honestly, we always go back to brigh, vibrant and pastel shades. I have also succumbed to these pastel trends and I couldn't wait to get my fingers on these lovely pastel eyeliner pens from Essence Wake, up Spring! limited edition.

I am not really one to use such hades daily, but I for the better of March I felt like I need to make a change in my makeup look and these looked perfect or the job. I mus say I didn't expect much from them. I expected them to work, to have a nice colour and nothing more. I didn't even think taht these might not work for me. If you want to find out whether or not I like these, read on!

The packaging of these is plastic, easy to use. They close very well, which I like as I know these won't dry out so fast. Each one of these contains 1 ml of product, which is not much. The tip  of the eyeliner pens is narrow, quite long and I really like the shape, though it's foam one. I am not very good at applaying eyeliner but these seem light and easy to use for me. I prefer to create thin lines with these as I am not really used to such light shades as eyeliners so the tip really works for me.

The collection offers three different shades of eyeliner pens. The lightest one is white in shade  Let's the Spring Begin. I have never used much white on my eyes. Though I was really interested in this one, as I wanted to combine it with more classic looks in black, grey and white and into more light spring looks with light blue or pink. I mostly used this one on it's own, not over another eyeshadow and it did show well. However, I needed to go over two or three times to get it full opaque and I had little time to actually do this as I felt the first layer drying out too fast and than creasing while I was trying to apply another layer. The pigmentation is decent, but not that amazing. I only paired this one over light beige- nude- browny shades on my eyes and it didn't do so well, it got messy and  it was hard for me to create a good white line. If I use only this and some black mascara this looks very good and it's the easiest way to apply it.

Spring A-ling A-ling is a light green shade. I must say this one dissapointed me the most as it's too light, doesn't have good pigmentation and can be hardly built up. This one looks lovely on it's own, with just a thin line of a little something something on my eyes. But if I wanted to create a more fully opaque look or layer it over an eyeshadow  would loose all my patience first and just remove everything off.Unfortunately this shade is the least pigmented of the three and also the texture is a bit too liquidy. I can see while making hand swatches this is the only shade that just spills into my skin, cracks and doesn't look that even as the other two do. Anyway, I can make this one work with a bit of patience, trying to layer it up a bit and wearing it just on it's own.

Happy First Day of Spring is my favouirte shade from the bunch! It's a pastel lilac shade and screams spring even more than the other two. The pigmentation of this one is better than with the other two shades, also can be built up more easily and the shade itself looks gorgeous. I was able to wear this on it's own and also over an eyeshadow without much trouble. I must say though that I got used to using a really fine and thin eyeliner brush by Alverde (bought it a very long time ago, have no idea if they still sell it) and pick the shade up from the tip, than apply it with the brush. I know it sounds a bit weird and like I need twenty more minutes to do my eyes, which is about true, but it keeps the tip cleaner and I hope to be able to use this one for a couple of months. I do this especially when I try to layer it over a darker eyeshadow or one that's a bit more dusty, as I don't want the tip to get all clogged with the other products.

I have read some other comments and we, beauty bloggers talked about these and some said they feel like the tip of the pen is too dry or the pigmentation of shades varied, so not everyone got a very good lilac shade. To me these are good. I like the finish they have, once they dry they look matte and they would look great paired with a black liner if you feel up to making two lines. This look is not for me as I  prefer simpler looks plus my hands shake too much to make two good lines on both eyes.  They are not waterproof, but I have not yet noticed any problems, they stayed on quite well. Staying power depends on the primer and also whether or not I use them on their own or layer them on top of the eyeshadow. If the tips of these eyeliners get too messy and dirty and pick up too much of my eyeshadows I will probably just break the tip of and try to apply this with my brush. Maybe I will change my mind about these once I open them and start applying them without the tip, I don't know. For now I wanted to try them and use them as they are. They didn't dissapoint me, even though I must say the pigmentation could be better, they could be waterproof, the tip could be better, or maybe they could use a tiny brush instead of felt tip. They could be just liquid liner, not eyeliner pens? Still for the price of about 2,19 euros these are very affordable and as I have never tried any such shades on my eyes before, I actually like them. Sure they could do better, but for now they are ok. Thinking how much more money I would have to spend to get the perfect product, lets's say for Kryolan if it offers such shades (I am just assuming, haven't checked if they actually do) these are decent and will last me through spring and summer 2016. Honestly, I just can't say I don't like them, because I wanted these shades so badly that now that I have them, I love them! :P Even though while applying they sometimes drive me crazy :P

Hope this review was helpful to you!

  1. krasna objava !
